User Interface Design. Feel free to visit www.BibleStudyInteractive.com to see the site being presented here.

Here is a brief outline of what you would see in the video.

This was the newsletter that lead users to the bible study. I wanted to keep it simple and flexible in case people were viewing it on their cell phones.

Layout Changes

For the home page we chose a layout that would require less scrolling. We also chose from the beginning not to put text on top of pure white to keep from causing strain on the user's eyes. Userability tests revealed that users weren't noticing the left and right jquery content arrows so I added contrast to the actionable items.

Forms

For the forms I edited the CSS to make the the fields and button big and friendly. I also suggested we use Wafoo forms which include helpful features like popup hints and extra CSS elements when that field is active.

Problems revealed through userbality tests

Here is a link to the userability test form that I filled out while observing each participant.

Userability Test Form

Problem 1. Tabs

"Where is the next video?" Users did not notice the tabs and couldn't find the next step.

Solution - I redesigned the tabs to be much bigger.

Problem 2. Voicethread

"Where do I click?" Users thought that the discussion topics were buttons, and didn't notice the comment button below the slide.

Solution - I toned down the graphics on the slide and gave explicit instructions in bright red directly above the comment button. Voicethread.com is a hosted service so we could not edit the design of their buttons.
